Concygne

We recycle our used tights

Recycling used tights: that's the idea we had when we created "Concygnes" (the deposit for Swan tights, yes we like puns here).

100 million tights

100 million is the number of used tights that end up in the trash every year in France.

(Yes, you read that right: 100 million). 100 million is about 7 tons of pantyhose thrown away.

A huge waste and a huge ecological disaster.

All of this is the result of planned obsolescence, which we previously discussed on our blog in this article .

At Cygnes, we were keen to fight against this waste and give a second life to our tights .

A Swan Tights

La Concygnes, how does it work?

We consign our customers' end-of-life tights . It's very simple: if you have a pair of tights to "consign," simply contact us, fill out a form, and follow our return process for used tights. Everything is done automatically and at our expense!

Oh yes, we forgot to tell you that for each Cygnes product purchased, you receive a €5 voucher on our site! (and you're doing a great thing for the planet)

The concagnes

And after? The Concygnes 🦢

" How do you recycle your tights? " is one of the questions we receive most in our after-sales service. We've asked ourselves this a lot too.

We were convinced that there were tons of things to do with end-of-life tights, especially those that combine strength and elasticity like ours. The idea of the scrunchie and the pouch came to us quite naturally: useful everyday objects, to which the material of our tights was perfectly suited. No sooner said than done, we got our sewing machines and started producing scrunchies and pouches...

Okay, it didn't quite work out that way. Given our sewing skills, we preferred to call on professionals. Obviously, we wanted the products from Concygnes to be assembled in France and under good working conditions.

We then discovered the Sève-Eveil association: an ESAT located very close to our home!

Its mission is to expand the range of possibilities for all people with disabilities it welcomes 🤍

The members of the ESAT seemed as excited about this project as we were, so we went ahead and sent them some concycled tights. And after a few prototypes, this is what it looked like:

  • Pouches to carry and store your Cygnes products without damaging them and scrunchies to create your most beautiful hairstyles.
  • The scrunchies are made of returnable Swan tights, with a satin fabric.
  • A little diagram to explain how we go from end-of-life tights to super scrunchies and pouches:
Recycling Swan Tights

We don't intend to stop there: our goal is to develop (lots) of other products made from recycled tights. Stay tuned so you don't miss a thing about our recycling program...
